Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows four young people who become lost in the galaxy after a mysterious discovery and try to find their way home. Its first trailer introduces Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood, a figure who crosses paths with the children. The official material identifies Jod by name, but does not confirm that he is a Jedi.
What the Skeleton Crew trailer introduces
Lucasfilm presented the first trailer and key art at D23, with StarWars.com announcing them on August 10, 2024. The preview sets up a coming-of-age adventure: four children leave what seems to be a safe home, encounter a mysterious discovery, and end up lost in the wider Star Wars galaxy.
The series is set in the New Republic era. Its premise turns a familiar childhood impulse—wanting to explore beyond your own world—into a journey through space. Co-creator Jon Watts described that idea to StarWars.com: “At its core it’s a story about wanting to explore a world that’s bigger than your own,” the trailer announcement.
Is Jude Law’s character a Jedi?
Jude Law plays Jod Na Nawood. Although the trailer’s imagery and the “Jedi” framing may invite that interpretation, the official trailer announcement and Lucasfilm series profile identify him as Jod Na Nawood without formally stating that he is a Jedi. The available official descriptions therefore establish his name and actor, not a definitive Jedi status or backstory.

How the series draws on coming-of-age adventure films
Lucasfilm describes Skeleton Crew as a coming-of-age series inspired by 1980s Amblin films including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and The Goonies. That influence sits alongside the Star Wars setting: rather than following established heroes, the story begins with young characters confronting a galaxy far larger and less familiar than their home.
Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created the show. The official materials also list episode directors including Watts, David Lowery, the Daniels, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung; Ford and Watts are among the writers, with two episodes written by Myung Joh Wesner. These credits are listed in the announcement and Lucasfilm profile.
