He later said it was improving. Contemporaneous reports did not identify an official diagnosis or cause, so the episode cannot be attributed to a specific condition based on the information made public at the time.
What Lil Nas X said about his face
In the video, Lil Nas X—whose birth name is Montero Lamar Hill—attempted to smile and described difficulty laughing. The Los Angeles Times reported his caption as: “Soooo lost control of the right side of my face.” The post was shared April 14, and reports about it appeared April 15. The Los Angeles Times account and CNN’s report republished by WBAL-TV described reduced movement on one side of his face.
Was a diagnosis or cause disclosed?
No official diagnosis or cause was disclosed in the contemporaneous coverage. The reports describe what he said and what was visible in the video; they do not establish why the facial symptoms occurred. It would therefore be unsupported to label the episode Bell’s palsy, Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a stroke, or another condition.
What did he say about getting better?
In a response to worried fans, he wrote, “Stop being sad for me! Shake ur [expletive] for me instead!” CNN reported the message as reassurance, not as a medical assessment.

In an April 15 Instagram Story reported by E! News on April 18, he said, “I’ve been chewing a lot so I can get this muscle stronger,” and, “My eye still has to play catch-up but I can give a genuine smile, so that’s good.” These are his own updates and do not amount to a clinical evaluation. E! News’ follow-up records the later statement.

- Reported: He shared a hospital-bed video describing loss of control on the right side of his face.
- Reported by him afterward: He said his face was getting better and described being able to smile, while saying his eye was still catching up.
- Not established in those reports: The medical diagnosis, cause, treatment, or his present health status.
E! reported a separate health disclosure in June 2026, but that report does not establish a connection to the facial symptoms he described in 2025. The later report should not be treated as evidence of the cause of the earlier episode.
