Jordan Chiles’s appeal was not simply denied. The Swiss Federal Supreme Court accepted revision requests from Chiles and USA Gymnastics and sent the dispute back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to consider new evidence. That remand did not itself restore Chiles’s bronze medal or decide who should receive it. The official material cited below confirms the remand, but does not establish whether CAS has issued a later ruling or what the current official medal allocation is.
What is the latest confirmed status of Jordan Chiles’s appeal?
The most recent confirmed development in the available official record is a remand to CAS. In its 2026/1 Bulletin, CAS says the Swiss Federal Supreme Court accepted revision requests filed by Chiles and USA Gymnastics because new evidence unavailable during the original CAS case could potentially affect the award. The same bulletin says the Swiss court rejected Chiles’s separate challenge to the CAS panel president’s independence and impartiality. That issue is distinct from the accepted requests to revise the award. A January 2026 Yahoo Sports report and a February 2026 Schellenberg Wittmer legal update also describe the action as a partial grant and remand.
The cited official record does not establish whether CAS has ruled again since the remand or confirm the present official medal allocation. Those live facts require confirmation from CAS, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), or the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before being stated as settled.

Why was Chiles’s score changed in the original case?
At the Paris 2024 women’s floor exercise final, Chiles initially received a score of 13.666. Her coach, Cecile Landi, questioned the difficulty score. The inquiry led to a higher score and changed the standings. Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation challenged the result.
In the original proceedings, the CAS panel applied Article 8.5 of the 2024 FIG Technical Rules, which set a one-minute deadline for an inquiry. The panel found that Chiles’s inquiry had been submitted too late and reinstated her initial score of 13.666. Its award said FIG should determine the resulting ranking and medal consequences. The panel’s finding was about the timing rule, not that Chiles had performed worse. The award also said it was not CAS’s role to apply equitable principles or award medals. It expressed the hope that FIG would draw lessons from the case for the athletes involved and for future competitions.

The revision decision is procedurally significant, but it is not a final merits victory for either athlete. It reopens consideration of the evidence; it does not itself determine the final score, ranking, or medal recipient.

The confirmed remand alone cannot answer that. It means CAS must weigh the new evidence, but the official sources cited here do not report the result of that reconsideration or establish the current official allocation. Until a later CAS ruling and the relevant FIG or IOC records are confirmed, it would be premature to say either that Chiles has her bronze back or that she has definitively lost it.

For a reliable status check, look for a subsequent CAS decision and then confirm how FIG and the IOC record the event’s official ranking and medals. A procedural ruling and a federation’s medal allocation are related, but they are not interchangeable.
