On August 29, 2024, Joey Lawrence denied having a physical relationship with actress Melina Alves while they filmed Socked in for Christmas, calling the rumors false. Alves had also described their connection as a friendship and denied a sexual relationship. The affair claim was reported as an allegation in divorce papers, not established as fact.

In an Instagram statement reported by Us Weekly on August 29, 2024, Lawrence said: “Melina and I became close friends and I did not have a physical relationship with her while filming the movie Socked in for Christmas. These rumors are false.”

Lawrence also said his marriage was already troubled when he met Alves. He attributed part of its breakdown to his belief that his two older daughters would not be accepted as part of the family. That was his explanation, not an independently established finding.
What Melina Alves said
Alves addressed the rumors a day earlier. In a statement posted to Instagram and reported by Just Jared, she described their relationship as a meaningful friendship that developed naturally and denied a sexual relationship. Her statement, like Lawrence’s, is her account of what happened.

What the divorce-paper allegation establishes—and what it does not
Lawrence’s wife, Samantha Cope, filed for divorce in August 2024, according to E! and Us Weekly. E! reported that Cope’s filing listed June 7 as the separation date.
E! also reported that divorce papers filed by Alves’s estranged husband, Edward Rider, alleged adultery involving Lawrence and Alves. That is an allegation attributed to court papers—not a court finding that an affair occurred. The cited reports document the allegation and the two actors’ public denials; they do not establish the allegation as fact or report a court resolution.
