Jimmy Barnes’s heart surgery followed a bacterial infection that spread to a previously replaced heart valve. His official account says surgeons replaced the affected aortic valve on December 13, 2023. In February 2024, he said he was getting stronger and had been cleared to increase exercise; in February 2025, he reported that a check-up found the surgery was working well. These are dated updates, not a new 2026 health announcement.
What happened to Jimmy Barnes?
On December 13, 2023, Barnes said a bacterial infection he had been battling for about two weeks had spread to his heart and affected a valve previously replaced because of a congenital defect. He said he was due to undergo urgent open-heart surgery to clear the infection and fit a clean valve. Barnes’s statement described the situation as serious and said the operation would keep him out of action for a while.
A later official recovery update, published February 11, 2024, added that he had been admitted to hospital on November 27, 2023, with bacterial pneumonia. It said a staphylococcal infection developed into endocarditis, affected his aortic valve, and led to urgent surgery to replace that valve on December 13.
How did Barnes describe his recovery?
In the February 2024 update, Barnes wrote, “Every day I’m getting stronger. Every day I’m pushing myself a little bit further.” His team said doctors had cleared him to increase exercise after a little over eight weeks of recovery, and the announcement set out his plans to return to the stage.

No. On October 5, 2026, Barnes’s official site announced a 2027 tour. That establishes a performance plan, not a fresh medical statement or independent confirmation of his current health. The latest health-related account in the sources cited here is his February 2025 comment about a check-up.
