This is a ranking by nominal worldwide theatrical gross—not a rating of the films’ quality or a measure of studio profit. The figures below use The Numbers’ franchise table for consistency.
All five Bourne movies ranked by worldwide gross
The Numbers’ figures are unadjusted reported grosses. Domestic gross is included as a secondary comparison; it does not determine the ranking.

What each film’s box-office rank shows
1. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007): $444.0 million worldwide
The third film in the Matt Damon-led run tops this worldwide-gross ranking. Its reported domestic gross of $227.5 million is also the highest domestic figure in The Numbers’ table.
#1 Best Overall
2. Jason Bourne (2016): $416.2 million worldwide
The 2016 return is about $27.9 million behind The Bourne Ultimatum in The Numbers’ worldwide figures. Box Office Mojo reports a slightly different worldwide total for this film—$415,484,914—so figures from different trackers should not be mixed in a single comparison.
3. The Bourne Supremacy (2004): $311.0 million worldwide
The second film ranks third worldwide. Its $176.1 million domestic gross exceeds Jason Bourne’s domestic total, even though it sits below it in the worldwide ranking.
Rank #2
4. The Bourne Legacy (2012): $280.4 million worldwide
The Jeremy Renner-starring spinoff takes fourth place. NBCUniversal identifies it as one of the franchise’s five theatrical releases, alongside four films starring Matt Damon.
5. The Bourne Identity (2002): $214.4 million worldwide
The film that launched the theatrical series ranks fifth by worldwide gross. Its $121.5 million domestic total is higher than The Bourne Legacy’s, which is why the two films switch places when the comparison is limited to domestic grosses.

Why domestic and worldwide rankings differ
Worldwide gross includes reported theatrical ticket sales across markets; domestic gross covers only the domestic field reported by the tracker. The different totals produce a different order at the bottom: The Bourne Identity exceeds The Bourne Legacy domestically, but trails it worldwide. Box Office Mojo’s domestic lifetime ranking also puts The Bourne Supremacy ahead of Jason Bourne, while The Numbers’ domestic totals place them in the opposite order. Each tracker’s figures should be read as its own dataset, not blended.
NBCUniversal said in 2025 that the five theatrical films had collectively grossed more than $1.64 billion worldwide. The five The Numbers totals in the table add up to $1,665,926,127; the company’s statement is a rounded threshold, not an exact total.
Rank #4
Box-office gross is not profit
A reported theatrical gross is not the amount a studio keeps. It does not subtract exhibitor shares, marketing, distribution, or other costs. The Numbers lists production budgets separately, but dividing a film’s gross by its production budget would not establish profit or return on investment.
For this ranking, “crushed it” means only that a film accumulated a higher reported worldwide theatrical gross than the films below it in the same tracker. It does not establish which movie was most profitable or best received.
