What happened, and when?
Friday, July 11: Rumors and a protest
The Los Angeles Times reported that a crowd gathered near Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel after Orange County officials received information about a possible Vance visit. At that point, reports about an aircraft and the purpose of Vance’s travel had not been confirmed. The Times said the protest was connected to opposition to immigration raids and federal immigration policy. Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento criticized policies he said hurt local communities and said the timing came when trust in government felt fragile; those were his stated views.
Saturday, July 12: Video reported from inside the park
The Times reported that a video posted by DisneyScoopGuy appeared to show Vance and two of his children walking through Disneyland and riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The report also described visible security personnel, but said their identity was unclear. Disney declined to comment on individual guests’ plans.
TheWrap also covered protest activity and mixed reactions to Vance inside the park. These reports help explain why the visit drew attention beyond a family vacation: it took place amid opposition to federal immigration policy and prompted visible public responses.

August: Vance comments on the trip
In August 2025, The Independent reported Vance’s remarks about the July visit, made on the Katie Miller Podcast. He said he had never been to Disneyland, called it “awesome,” and added: “We had the island to ourselves which was very cool.” He also said, “Sorry to all the people who were at Disneyland for the longer lines, but we had a very good time.”
Was Disneyland shut down for Vance?
The reporting does not establish that the park was closed to the public. “We had the island to ourselves” is Vance’s description of his experience, not independent confirmation of a parkwide closure. The contemporaneous Times reports describe a visit and visible security presence, but do not document Disneyland shutting down to other guests.

Why did the visit draw protests?
The protest was reported in connection with opposition to immigration raids and federal immigration policy. Sarmiento’s comments, as quoted by the Times, expressed his criticism of those policies and concern about public trust. TheWrap reported both protest activity and mixed reactions from people inside the park. Those accounts describe the public response; they do not show that every protester or park guest shared the same view.

The Times reported visible security personnel but said it was unclear whether they were Secret Service agents. The available reporting does not identify the personnel’s agency or provide an official account of the security arrangements. It also does not establish who paid for the trip or its security, so claims about taxpayer costs are not supported by these accounts.
