Yes. The 2020 film I Still Believe is based on the real-life story of Christian singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp and his first wife, Melissa. Camp’s official materials connect Melissa’s death months after their wedding with the grief, faith and songwriting that inspired the song “I Still Believe.” The film has a real biographical foundation, but that does not mean every scene or line of dialogue is a literal record of events.
What happened in the real story?
Jeremy Camp’s story with Melissa is the real-life basis for the film. The official movie site describes it as based on the real-life story of the singer, while Camp’s official materials describe his love and loss after Melissa’s battle with cancer. His memoir listing says Melissa died months after their wedding and links the grief and faith journey that followed to the story behind “I Still Believe.”

Melissa’s official site also acknowledges the film’s portrayal of her and Jeremy, and thanks those involved in bringing Melissa’s journals and life story to publication. Taken together, these accounts establish the central relationship and loss behind the film without making it a documentary record.
How much of I Still Believe is true?
The film is a dramatization based on real people and events. The official framing is “based on” Jeremy Camp’s life and a “true-life story”; those terms support its biographical foundation, not a claim that every conversation, scene or moment happened exactly as shown.
