What happened in their breakup timeline?
February 2007: The relationship begins
The Los Angeles Times places the start of the relationship in February 2007. Other accounts establish only that they were dating by 2007.
July 27, 2009: Their first reported breakup
TV Guide reported on July 27 that Kardashian’s representative confirmed the couple had broken up. The representative described the decision as mutual. September 2009: They reconcile
They got back together in September. The Los Angeles Times says they reunited at Khloé Kardashian’s wedding to Lamar Odom; CBS also reported a September reconciliation.
February 2010: Kardashian attends the Super Bowl
Kardashian attended Super Bowl XLIV, where Bush’s New Orleans Saints won. That appearance came before the later reports of trouble, but by itself does not establish that the relationship was trouble-free.
March 2010: Reports differ about their status
Contemporary accounts did not describe the situation consistently. E! reported that they had split, while People described them as taking a step back and still deciding what to do. CBS also reported that Bush flew to Miami and spent a day with Kardashian during this period. Looking back, the Los Angeles Times dates their final breakup to March 2010.
Why did Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush split?
The clearest explanation for the July 2009 split was the practical strain of distance and work schedules, as described by Kardashian’s representative to TV Guide. Kardashian was filming in California while Bush’s football obligations were taking him to New Orleans.

Accounts of the final breakup cited broader lifestyle differences, including Kardashian’s exposure to paparazzi and Bush’s travel for games and residence in New Orleans. CBS also reported concerns about Kardashian’s demanding schedule and fame, but attributed those points to unnamed sources. Neither outlet establishes these as a definitive explanation from Kardashian or Bush themselves.
What did Kardashian say about marriage?
In a May 2009 comment reported by TV Guide, Kardashian responded to recurring questions about marriage: “People ask us [about marriage] all the time. Of course we talk about marriage, but who knows when that’s coming.” The remark came before their first reported split that July.
