How many people watched Worlds 2022?
The tournament’s reported peak was 5,147,701 concurrent viewers—about 5.15 million—according to Guinness World Records, which attributes the figure to Esports Charts. Esports Charts independently described the final’s peak as more than 5.1 million viewers.
“Peak concurrent viewers” means the largest audience watching at the same time. It is not the total number of distinct people who watched at any point during the tournament.
When did the peak happen?
The peak came during the second map of the grand final between South Korean teams DRX and T1, according to Esports Charts’ event report. Played on 5 November 2022 at San Francisco’s Chase Center, the final ended with DRX defeating T1 3–2. The tournament ran from 29 September through 5 November, with matches in Mexico and the United States. Guinness World Records’ record listing gives the exact peak and final date.

What the number includes—and excludes
Esports Charts states that its results exclude statistics from Chinese streaming services because of concerns about the reliability of the data those services provide. The 5.15 million figure therefore describes the tracked audience in its report, not a verified worldwide total that includes China.
That coverage detail matters when comparing Worlds with other events. A comparison is strongest when both figures use the same audience metric, cover the same platforms and regions, and refer to the same scope—such as a single match rather than an entire tournament.

Peak viewers are not the same as total viewing
Esports Charts reported 141.9 million hours watched and an average audience of 987.4 thousand for Worlds 2022. These measure different things from the 5,147,701 peak: hours watched add up viewing time, while average viewers describe the audience level across the event. None of these figures is a count of unique people.
In its historical comparison, Esports Charts said Worlds 2022 ranked second to Worlds 2021 in hours watched, despite airing nine hours longer. The 2022 event’s peak was described as the highest in Worlds history at the time, a narrower claim than being the most-watched esports event by every measure. Its retrospective also lists a 5.4 million peak for the Free Fire World Series 2021.

How the global broadcast reached viewers
Riot Games said its Worlds 2022 global events team worked with 22 broadcast partners producing shows in 21 languages. Regional teams adapted the stories and presentation for their audiences. Riot described the operation as a shared world feed with regional broadcasts built around it; that context helps explain the tournament’s international coverage, but it is not independent verification of the audience count.
Riot’s report also mentions 73.8 million concurrent viewers, but that figure refers to the 2021 final, not Worlds 2022. It should not be used as the 2022 peak.
