The “fresh but not brand new” description came from an unnamed source in a December 2023 report; in June 2024, Costner said they were friends and had never dated.
Where did the “fresh” relationship claim come from?
In December 2023, Us Weekly reported that unnamed sources said Costner and Jewel were quietly dating. The story connected the claim to their appearance together at a tennis fundraiser on Necker Island for Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation. One source described the relationship as “fresh but not brand new.” That was an anonymous-source characterization, not a statement from either Costner or Jewel.

What did Kevin Costner say about Jewel?
On June 18, 2024, Costner addressed the rumor on The Howard Stern Show. ABC News reported his response the following day: “Jewel and I are friends. We’ve never gone out ever.” He also said, “We don’t have a romance and we’ve not dated.” Costner said nine people were on the Necker Island trip and that Jewel was there for her foundation.
What has Jewel said about the rumor?
Jewel has not publicly confirmed a romance with Costner. In comments recapped by Us Weekly, she called him “a great person” in an April 2024 interview with Elle and described public interest in the possibility of a romance as “intense.” In May 2024, she told People, “I found love, and I’m not talking about Kevin’s,” then clarified that her happiness did not depend on being in a relationship.

In an April 20, 2026 report, Us Weekly quoted Jewel saying at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, “I’m all about protecting my peace.” The outlet described her as focused on music and not really looking for love at that moment. Those remarks were about her own priorities; they did not confirm a relationship with Costner.
Are Costner and Jewel still together?
That wording assumes they were a couple, which the public record cited here does not establish. The dating claim originated with unnamed sources in 2023, while Costner’s on-record position in 2024 was that he and Jewel were friends and had never dated. Jewel’s later comments did not announce a romance with him.

What about reports of Costner dating Kelly Noonan Gores?
In January 2026, Us Weekly reported, citing unnamed sources, that Costner had been casually dating writer Kelly Noonan Gores since summer 2025 and characterized the relationship as private and casual. That report was based on sources, not a direct confirmation from Costner; it does not change what he said about Jewel.
