Keith Urban released “Messed Up As Me” on March 1, 2024. The song’s premise, as Urban described it, is a dysfunctional relationship that keeps pulling two people back despite their lack of compatibility. A separate release featuring a “2:45am version” followed on September 6, 2024.
When did Keith Urban release “Messed Up As Me”?
MCA announced the single on March 1, 2024, and Apple Music lists the original one-song release on that date. The label described it at the time as another release from an album that had not yet been named, following “Straight Line.” Urban and longtime co-producer Dann Huff produced the song. MCA’s March 1 announcement and the Apple Music listing document the original release.

What is “Messed Up As Me” about?
Urban described a relationship with little compatibility beyond one compelling point of connection—enough to make the people involved return even when the relationship is not working:
“Most of us have been in dysfunctional relationships before, where there’s not a lot of compatibility, except for that one area where it’s so good you put up with all the rest. A phone call or a night out and you’re right back where you shouldn’t be.”

The quote is from Urban’s statement in MCA’s March 1, 2024 announcement. MCA characterized the song’s musical feel as unresolved and cyclical, echoing the repeated return at the center of the relationship premise.
Is there a “2:45am version”?
Yes. Apple Music lists a separate release titled “Messed Up As Me (2:45am version) – Single,” dated September 6, 2024. It contains two tracks: the “2:45am version” and the original song. The available listings establish the release dates and tracklists, but do not specify how the alternate version differs in its arrangement or production.

The song also appears as track 3 on the MCA Official Store’s HIGH digital-download listing, with a displayed length of 3:16. The store identifies the format as an MP3 digital download. Its page calls HIGH an 11-song collection, while also displaying a short “BLUE SKY” entry alongside 11 full tracks, so the listed total needs that qualification.
