Kristen Wiig returned as Target Lady in a 12-spot national Target campaign announced April 2, 2024, ahead of Target Circle Week. Target announced the campaign on April 2, 2024, and timed its launch to Target Circle Week, which began April 7. Target described it as the first national advertising campaign featuring Wiig in her SNL role as Target Lady. Who made the campaign, and where did it run?
Target identified Wiig, former SNL writer James Anderson, and director Tom Kuntz as collaborators. Target listed television, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and Target Finds as distribution channels. Fast Company also reported placements around the women’s and men’s NCAA Final Four and the CMT Music Awards, as well as on Instagram and Snapchat; those specific placements are the trade publication’s reporting, rather than Target’s channel list.
How the Target Circle launch fit the character
The return was not a single cameo: Target built a national campaign around the Circle membership launch and Circle Week. Target Lady’s intense enthusiasm for shopping gave the retailer a recognizable comic vehicle for introducing offers and membership benefits. Target executive vice president and chief marketing officer Lisa Roath said the company partnered with Wiig to create “some memorable new laughs” as it prepared to introduce the new Target Circle and Circle Week deals.
