Two K-pop-focused docuseries premiered in August 2024: Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE on Netflix and K-Pop Idols on Apple TV+. They take different approaches: the first follows the creation of a new group, while the second was announced as a backstage look at working artists. These are past release dates, not upcoming August premieres.
Two August 2024 releases, two different stories
Andy Meek reported on July 29, 2024, that Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE would arrive on Netflix on August 21 and K-Pop Idols on Apple TV+ on August 30. The dates help explain the original headline; they should not be read as current or future release announcements. BGR’s July 2024 announcement coverage described the two series.
| Series | Focus | Episode count | Availability information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE | The formation of a global girl group through a K-pop-style training and development process. | Eight episodes, according to Netflix’s current title listing. | Netflix currently lists the documentary; Netflix Tudum says it is streaming on Netflix. |
| K-Pop Idols | Backstage work and career pressures, following Jessi, Cravity, and Blackswan. | Six episodes, according to the July 2024 announcement coverage. | Announced for Apple TV+ on August 30, 2024. Current title availability by region has not been established here. |
Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE follows a group being made
Netflix describes the series as a documentary about HYBE and Geffen Records’ effort to create their first global girl group. The process draws on K-pop-style training and development. Netflix’s official title page lists eight episodes, while Netflix Tudum’s series guide describes the contestants and the group’s formation.
Tudum reports that the project began with 20 original contestants and that HYBE and Geffen selected them from more than 120,000 submissions. Netflix published that submission figure in 2025; it describes the selection pool for the series, not submissions received in 2025. Six members ultimately made the group: Daniela, Manon, Lara, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The premise makes this the more direct choice for viewers curious about selection, training, and how KATSEYE came together. Netflix’s 2024 description, reproduced in BGR’s announcement, said the series would follow “the 20 original contestants and the behind-the-scenes process of putting together this one-of-a-kind girl group, beyond what was seen in The Debut: Dream Academy.”
K-Pop Idols focuses on established artists at work
Rather than trace a new group’s formation, K-Pop Idols was announced as a six-episode backstage series following Jessi, Cravity, and Blackswan through the demands and challenges of their craft. The Apple TV+ description quoted in BGR’s July 2024 report framed it as a look at the pressure behind performance: “Glitz meets grit as K-pop artists Jessi, Cravity, and Blackswan give everything they’ve got to an art form that demands nothing less than perfection.”

- Look for K-Pop Idols if you want the announced backstage view of Jessi, Cravity, and Blackswan as working performers.
