Journey’s March 14, 2025, RodeoHouston performance at NRG Stadium was canceled after an electrical incident beneath the stage interrupted the set during “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The band did not voluntarily end the show: RodeoHouston announced the cancellation, while the specific technical cause was not established in the organizer’s statement.
Why was Journey’s Houston concert canceled?
RodeoHouston attributed the cancellation to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage. In a statement reproduced by CultureMap Houston, the organizer said: “Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert.” It said it would assess the situation and provide updates about rescheduling or refunds.

The statement identifies an electrical incident, but does not explain what failed or establish a more specific technical cause. The Houston Chronicle also reported the interruption and cancellation; the available accounts do not provide an official incident investigation or findings.
When did the show stop?
The interruption came during “Don’t Stop Believin’.” CultureMap Houston described it as the fourth song. The Houston Chronicle recounted that the sound cut out and the band left the stage. Audience members continued singing, according to the contemporaneous coverage.

What did Neal Schon say about returning?
Journey co-founder and lead guitarist Neal Schon said he offered to return the following night, but that the performance could not be arranged. The Houston Chronicle reported his Instagram post with these words: “Thank you Houston for singing Don’t stop Believin’ before we were rushed off the stage because of an electrical fire and were not able to return. I felt terrible for our fans and offered to play tonight and make it up to y’all but they were not able to make it happen so until next time – Love and Respect.”
Schon described the incident as an “electrical fire” in his post. RodeoHouston’s public statement, as reproduced by CultureMap Houston, called it an “electrical incident under the stage area”; the organizer’s statement does not specify a fire or explain the technical cause.

How many people were at the concert?
The Chronicle reported that Schon estimated 79,000–80,000 fans were present for the 2025 performance. That is his estimate, not an independently verified ticket count. For comparison, the Chronicle reported 72,109 paid attendees at Journey’s 2022 RodeoHouston performance. The figures refer to different years and are reported on different terms; they should not be treated as directly comparable attendance counts.
Were refunds offered for the canceled show?
On March 18, 2025, the Houston Chronicle reported that RodeoHouston offered eligible attendees two choices: request a refund at the ticket’s original face value or donate the ticket value to support the organization’s youth and education mission. The report said instructions would be released in the coming days. It does not establish whether claims are still available. Anyone with an unresolved ticket question should contact RodeoHouston or AXS for current guidance.
