Judy Garland had three children: Liza Minnelli, her daughter with director Vincente Minnelli, and Lorna Luft and Joey Luft, her children with producer Sidney “Sid” Luft. Lorna and Joey are Liza’s half-siblings; Lorna and Joey share both parents.
Who were Judy Garland’s children?
| Child | Parentage | Relationship to the other children |
|---|---|---|
| Liza Minnelli | Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli | Half-sister to Lorna Luft and Joey Luft |
| Lorna Luft | Judy Garland and producer Sidney “Sid” Luft | Half-sister to Liza; sister to Joey |

Liza Minnelli’s official Family & Friends Album identifies Garland and Vincente Minnelli as her parents and names Lorna and Joey as her siblings. The Judy Garland Museum chronology dates Lorna’s birth to November 21, 1952, and Joey’s to March 29, 1955.
How did Garland’s children appear with her?
Garland and Liza performed together at London’s Palladium in 1964, according to the Judy Garland Museum chronology. The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s biography of Lorna Luft says Lorna’s 1963 television debut included siblings Liza and Joey, and that Lorna joined the family concert tour the following summer. These institutional biographies offer snapshots of the family’s public performances rather than a full account of their private lives.
Where can you read Lorna Luft’s account?
Lorna Luft’s Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir is a first-person account of her life with Garland, her half-sister Liza and her younger brother. Simon & Schuster’s book description establishes the memoir’s subject, while a 1998 Fresh Air interview archive documents Luft discussing the book and growing up as Garland’s daughter and Liza’s half-sister. Her recollections should be understood as her perspective, not as independent verification of every event.
