The show remains on NBC at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT, and NBCUniversal says episodes stream on Peacock the next day.
What changed in The Tonight Show schedule?
NBC moved the show from five new episodes a week to four. The Los Angeles Times reported on September 6, 2024, citing a person familiar with the plan, that new episodes would air Monday through Thursday and Friday would carry a repeat. The paper said NBC did not officially comment at the time.
That describes the regular weekly pattern, not a promise that a new episode will air every Monday through Thursday. Planned breaks, holidays, sports preemptions, and special programming can alter individual weeks. NBC says its shows take scheduled breaks during the year, and its 2025 fall schedule information includes special scheduling.
When and where can you watch?
NBCUniversal’s February 2026 program information lists The Tonight Show at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and says it streams on Peacock the next day. Check local listings for the broadcast schedule in your area, since network schedules can change.

#1 Best Overall
NBC says new episodes are typically posted early the morning after broadcast, although release timing and availability vary by show and platform. Depending on the episode, device, and access route, a TV-provider sign-in or NBCUniversal Profile may also be relevant. See the NBC Help Center’s episode-release guidance for details.
Why did NBC reduce the number of new episodes?
The available reports do not establish an official NBC explanation for this specific schedule change. The Los Angeles Times reported the new pattern in 2024 and noted that NBC had no official comment. In 2026, the Associated Press discussed the Tonight Show’s four-night schedule amid wider financial pressures on late-night television, but that industry context is not the same as NBC stating why it made this decision. The AP report does not prove a specific motive for the 2024 change.

What the audience figures do—and don’t—tell you
NBCUniversal reported that the February 6, 2026 post-Olympics telecast drew 2.4 million viewers, its most-watched episode since November 28, 2024. The company also said the week of February 2–6 was 27% above the show’s season average. These are figures for that particular episode and week, not a typical weekly audience or an explanation for the schedule change. The numbers appear in NBCUniversal’s February 11, 2026 announcement.
