Love, Sitara has the ingredients of an absorbing family drama: a couple weighing their future, a wedding bringing relatives together, and truths that threaten a cheerful family image. But its steady supply of revelations does not consistently translate into emotional momentum. The film gives Sobhita Dhulipala a strong central presence; the harder task—making the family’s conflicts feel lived-in rather than arranged—lands less securely.
What is Love, Sitara about?
Directed by Vandana Kataria, this 2024 Hindi-Telugu romance and family drama follows Tara, a young interior designer who returns to her hometown with her boyfriend, Arjun, amid relationship decisions and wedding plans. Family truths come to the surface, forcing the people around her to confront what they have kept out of view. That broad setup is enough to explain the film’s tension; the review is best approached without seeking out the specifics of its revelations.

Does the family-secret drama earn emotional investment?
Only in patches. The film’s central problem is not a shortage of conflict but the way conflict is delivered: fresh disclosures keep arriving, yet the accumulation can feel more like a mechanism for moving the plot than a gradual deepening of the people involved. When a revelation is expected to change how we understand a relationship, the emotional effect depends on having first seen that relationship develop with enough specificity. Here, the drama does not always give those shifts the room they need.
That unevenness also affects the pacing. At 105 minutes, the film has limited time to establish the couple, make the family dynamics legible, and let each new piece of information alter the atmosphere. The story remains watchable as one complication leads to another, but forward motion is not the same as emotional momentum. Some turns register as plot events before they register as painful or complicated experiences for the characters.
This is where the title’s “hard to care” judgment is most defensible: not because family secrets are inherently uninteresting, but because the film’s steady escalation can outpace the work of building investment. The premise points toward a close study of a family’s public face and private fractures; the execution is more effective at surfacing trouble than at making every consequence resonate.
How do the performances hold up?
Sobhita Dhulipala is the clearest anchor. ETimes reviewer Sreeparna Sengupta likewise identified the film as resting on Sitara and singled out Dhulipala’s screen presence, with Rajeev Siddhartha serving as a foil. That focus helps the film retain a center even when the surrounding drama feels crowded. Siddhartha plays Arjun, the boyfriend whose relationship with Tara is part of the story’s emotional frame.
The supporting family ensemble matters because the secrets and tensions belong to a network, not just to the central couple. Yet the film’s crowded set of conflicts can leave some of that network feeling functional: relatives become carriers of information or pressure when the drama needs another turn. The result is a contrast between a lead performance that keeps attention and a broader character web that does not always make the viewer feel equally connected to everyone affected.

The available critical response was mixed, not a clear consensus. ETimes gave the film 3/5 in Sreeparna Sengupta’s review dated 23 September 2024, emphasizing Dhulipala’s presence and the centrality of Sitara. Gadgets 360’s review index listed a 5/10 score on 27 September 2024 and framed the story around family dysfunction and secrets behind an outwardly happy image.
