The record brings together reinterpretations of standards and original songs. Apple Music characterizes its sound as jazz, while Universal Music Japan’s catalog points to a broader mix of jazz, surf punk, blues and classical influences.
Is Harlequin the Joker 2 soundtrack?
No. Gaga described Harlequin as a companion album to the film. Universal Music Japan’s catalog lists it separately from Joker: Folie à Deux (Music From The Motion Picture), the official film soundtrack. The companion record is a character-inspired album; the soundtrack is a distinct release.

How does Gaga’s performance connect to the character?
Gaga has described changing her vocal approach for Lee. Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she said: “One of the things that I did was change my voice in the film. It’s Lee’s voice, and it’s really raw, and it’s really naked. It’s very untrained.” The Associated Press quoted her describing the preparation as an effort to “untrain” herself and avoid settling into her familiar style.

That character-centered approach helps explain why Harlequin is more than a collection of songs associated with a movie: the album’s concept and arrangements are framed through Lee’s point of view.
