She described the decision as giving herself more time to say goodbye and feel ready to lay him to rest. The account comes from the memoir, not from a separate investigation into his death.
What the memoir says
In From Here to the Great Unknown, Presley recounted that Benjamin’s body remained in a separate room at the family’s Los Angeles home for roughly two months. CNA’s 8 October 2024 report on the memoir says the room was kept at 55°F (12.7°C) and that a funeral director helped bring him home. Those details are reported as Presley’s account in the book.
Presley framed the time as part of her grieving and her desire to continue caring for her son. As quoted by CNA, she wrote: “I felt so fortunate that there was a way that I could still parent him, delay it a bit longer so that I could become okay with laying him to rest.”
Why she said she waited
Presley’s account connects the delay to the difficulty of saying goodbye, not to a new explanation of Benjamin’s death. Sky News, reporting on the memoir on 9 October 2024, quoted Riley Keough saying: “It was really important for my mom to have ample time to say goodbye to him, the same way she’d done with her dad.”

How the memoir was completed
Benjamin Keough died in 2020 at age 27. Lisa Marie Presley died in January 2023, before the memoir was finished. The Associated Press reported on 8 October 2024 that Riley Keough completed the book using recordings her mother had made while preparing her life story, along with her own memories to fill gaps. The publisher describes it as told mostly in Lisa Marie’s words, with Riley contributing recollections.
