What happened between Jono and Ellie?
At an earlier Commitment Ceremony, Tori raised that Jono had been messaging Ellie, who had left the experiment. Jono acknowledged the contact and said they texted every three or four days to talk about what was happening on the show. He said there was “absolutely nothing there.” Nine’s recap also reported that other participants viewed the frequency as suspicious, but frequency alone does not establish romantic intent. Lauren said she felt hurt and betrayed by the messages, describing the contact as a relationship being built in secret. Jono’s position was that the messages were not flirty, concerned the experiment, and had been misrepresented. Those are the participants’ competing accounts: the available coverage does not independently verify an affair.

Commitment Ceremony: both chose to stay
Despite the confrontation, Lauren and Jono both chose to stay at that Commitment Ceremony. Lauren later explained that she had made her decision before learning about the messages. That choice was not the end of the dispute or a resolution of the couple’s conflict.

Final Dinner Party: doubts surfaced
Nine’s later Final Vows gallery reports that Jono admitted at the Final Dinner Party that he might have had an “easier” experience with another bride. Nine’s post-vows exit interview says the revelation about his texting with Ellie had brought the relationship crashing down in the days before the final ceremony.
Final Vows: Lauren walked away
At the Final Vows, Lauren said she did not see a future with Jono and left. Jono also said he did not see Lauren as the person for him, while maintaining that his messages with Ellie were innocent and not flirty. Nine reproduced Lauren’s words as: “Jono, I don’t see a future with you and no it’s not me, it’s you.”
In the same gallery, Jono said: “I hate that she chose to make me look bad with the messages with Ellie when she knew it was innocent.” His statement reflects his view of the dispute, not an independent finding about the messages.

Did Lauren and Jono break up because Jono cheated?
The relationship ended at Final Vows after the messages became a major point of conflict, but the reviewed coverage does not prove that Jono cheated. It reports acknowledged contact and the participants’ contrasting interpretations: Lauren felt betrayed, while Jono said the exchanges were about the experiment and were not romantic. Calling the episode a “cheating text scandal” describes the controversy around the messages; it should not be read as confirmation of an affair.
PerthNow’s contemporaneous March 31, 2024 report reproduces Lauren’s Final Vows statement: “Although you completely wasted my time in terms of finding a romantic partner, you taught me that I should always trust my gut. Jono, I don’t see a future with you.” The statement captures Lauren’s conclusion about the relationship, not proof of the allegation.
What happened after the vows?
In Nine’s exit interview, Lauren repeated that she saw no future with Jono: “I don’t see a future with you, and no, it’s not me. It’s you”. Jono described his reaction to the ceremony’s end by saying: “As soon as it was over I felt like eight tonnes fell off my shoulders.” These remarks document how each participant described the breakup at the time. The cited coverage concerns the 2024 season and does not establish their relationship status as of October 2026.
