Pollock shared her views in an interview with the Bondi-based swimwear brand It’s Now Cool, reported by PerthNow on 9 May 2021. She described Perth as laid-back and said that quality makes it special, even as it can make leaving difficult.
Her central point was that creatives based in Western Australia must work harder to gain opportunities beyond what she called the Perth bubble. She said that effort helps produce “super-grounded and hard-working individuals.” That is Pollock’s personal assessment, not a measured finding about Perth’s creative workforce.
Does growing up in Perth make creatives work harder overseas?
Pollock’s answer was yes: in her view, distance from other creative markets means people have to put in extra work to succeed elsewhere. She called Perth “the most isolated city in the world,” but the interview did not support that phrase with a study or statistic. It is best read as her description of the city’s remoteness, not as a verified ranking.

She also held two ideas together: Perth’s slower, laid-back way of life is part of its appeal, while that same separation can make it challenging to leave and build a career beyond the city. The interview presents her perspective; it does not establish how Perth compares with other cities or whether location alone determines a creative career.
Pollock’s connection to Western Australia
Pollock summed up her connection to the state by saying, “I’m a proud Westy.” The 2021 profile identified her as a Vivien’s model and as the partner of Perth-raised actor Dacre Montgomery, known for Stranger Things. Why red carpets still made her nervous
Despite attending high-profile events, including the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party, Pollock said she did not feel like a red-carpet professional. She said nerves came before the carpet, particularly during the anticipation of lining up and waiting amid the activity around the event.
Her account is a reminder that attending a major event does not necessarily make the experience feel routine. Pollock said she had not been on a carpet without feeling nervous and did not expect those nerves to disappear.
