Lisa Kudrow said she recently found a note Matthew Perry had left inside the Friends cookie jar he gave her when the show ended. She has not revealed what the note says. “Timing’s everything” was Kudrow’s comment about finding it—not the note’s wording.
What did Lisa Kudrow find in the cookie jar?
In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, reported January 8, 2025, Kudrow said she had recently discovered a note Perry had put inside the jar. She said she had not previously looked inside it and had forgotten the note was there. The report does not give the note’s text or an exact date for when she found it. The Independent’s account of the interview quotes her saying, “I had recently found the note that he had in it for me.”
Kudrow also said, “Timing’s everything.” That was her reaction to the discovery, not a quotation from Perry’s note. She has not publicly disclosed the note’s wording in the accounts described here.
Why did Matthew Perry give her the Friends cookie jar?
The jar was tied to a running joke between the co-stars. In a scene, Phoebe needed to leave, and Kudrow realized she was not wearing a watch. She gestured toward the clock face on the cookie jar as if it worked; Perry teased her for treating it like a real clock. Kudrow later recalled that the moment became a joke between them.

Perry gave her the jar as a wrap gift during the final week of filming. In her January 2025 account, Kudrow said he gave it to her at the end of their last episode. She also explained in a first-person InStyle essay that the prop belonged to Warner Bros., so Perry had to get special permission to take it. Kudrow kept the jar in her office.
An earlier account of the clock-face joke and wrap gift appeared in E! News’ 2020 recap of Kudrow’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

How the note remained in the jar
Kudrow’s accounts establish that Perry had put a note inside the jar and that she later found it there. In her InStyle essay, she wrote that she had recently realized it still held “a sweet note from Matthew inside it.” That essay describes the note as moving but does not quote its contents. The interview coverage likewise leaves the wording undisclosed.
