Event production partner Done+Dusted says the World Finals set records as the most-watched esports event and opening ceremony, reporting more than 70 million global viewers. That total is not defined as a unique-viewer or peak-concurrent figure in the production partner’s recap.

The two numbers measure different things: the viewer figure is an audience claim, while engagements count digital and social interactions. Done+Dusted’s recap does not specify the platforms or regions included, or whether “viewers” means cumulative reach, unique viewers, or another measure. The record claim and figures should therefore be attributed to the production partner rather than treated as independently verified or as a precisely defined audience metric.
How does that compare with Riot’s earlier audience figures?
Riot Games reported different, explicitly named measures for the 2021 Worlds final. In an article published April 19, 2023, Riot esports president John Needham said that final reached nearly 74 million peak concurrent viewers (PCU) and nearly 31 million average minute audience (AMA). Riot defined PCU as the number watching at one time and AMA as the average audience each minute in its report.
