They appeared on Thursday, August 1, the first of Lollapalooza 2024’s four days in Grant Park, Chicago. The festival ran August 1–4. Time Out Chicago’s published Thursday schedule placed Roan at 5 p.m. and Megan at 9 p.m. These are listed times, not verified exact starts. Time Out Chicago’s schedule and preview was published July 31, 2024.
Where did they perform?
Both artists performed on the T-Mobile stage, according to contemporary day-one photo captions from WBEZ Chicago and the Chicago Sun-Times. The captions confirm the stage and performances, but do not establish exact set start times or audience totals.
Why was Chappell Roan on the T-Mobile stage?
In a report published August 2, Rolling Stone reported that organizers switched Roan’s original smaller-stage slot with Kesha’s as anticipation for Roan’s performance grew. The report said fans ran from the Grant Park entrance gates toward the T-Mobile stage and that some arrived around noon for her scheduled 5 p.m. set. It also said Kesha appeared to approve of the change in a social media post afterward.

What was the atmosphere around Roan’s set?
WBEZ described large crowds and reported that some fans waited more than five hours at the barricade. It noted pink cowboy hats, camouflage caps reading “Midwest Princess,” and looks inspired by Roan’s music videos. Those are observations of fan styling, not evidence that the items were official merchandise. WBEZ called Roan “the Midwest’s own pop star”; that was the reporter’s description, not a quote from Roan.
The available contemporary accounts establish strong interest, but neither they nor the photo captions provide a verified audience count for Roan’s set or Megan’s. A general festival attendance figure should not be mistaken for either performer’s crowd: Time Out Chicago’s 2024 preview described attendance of over 100,000 per day as typical context, not a measured count for this edition or these sets.

How did the performances fit into day one?
The schedule placed Roan at 5 p.m. and Megan at 9 p.m. on the same stage. The coverage frames Roan’s appearance around unusual pre-set anticipation and the reported stage-slot change; Megan was listed in the later headliner slot. The cited accounts do not establish a comparison of set quality or comparable crowd sizes.
Lollapalooza’s 2024 program featured more than 170 artists across eight stages, according to Time Out Chicago. A preview also said selected sets, including Roan’s and Megan’s, were scheduled for Hulu streaming at the time; that historical announcement does not establish whether replays remain available now.
