Al volver a El gordo y la flaca, Estefan describió la edición como posiblemente la más controvertida que había presenciado. People en Español publicó sus comentarios el 25 de noviembre de 2025. «Nos ha tocado participar, yo diría, en el Miss Universo más controversial de la historia, definitivamente», dijo, según la transcripción del medio.
Estefan contó que no anticipaba que ocurrieran tantos episodios durante el certamen. Explicó que el ambiente y las controversias afectaron emocionalmente a las participantes y destacó que varias candidatas hispanas se apoyaron entre sí después del enfrentamiento entre Fátima Bosch y Nawat Itsaragrisil. Su comentario sobre esa solidaridad se refería a lo que ella percibió durante la experiencia en Tailandia.

La cobertura de People en Español también recoge que Estefan dijo: «Jamás me imaginé que cuando yo llegara a Tailandia a entregar a Lina a la congregación iba a pasar todo esto». Esa frase sitúa sus comentarios en su papel de madre acompañante; no equivale a una evaluación oficial del certamen.
Por qué criticó la seguridad y el acompañamiento
En comentarios posteriores, recogidos por El Universo el 6 de diciembre de 2025, Estefan fue más dura con la organización. Dijo que el concurso se había convertido, en su opinión, en «un concurso de quinta» y manifestó preocupación porque, según su relato, las participantes estaban sin chaperona ni seguridad. Sus observaciones deben entenderse como lo que ella dijo haber visto, no como una auditoría independiente de la protección de todas las concursantes.

Estefan comparó esa experiencia con su primer Miss Universo, en 1988, cuando acompañó a un jurado durante una semana. El Universo reprodujo su descripción de aquella edición como una recepción elegante y organizada por parte del gobierno anfitrión, en contraste con lo que ella percibió en 2025. La comparación refleja su recuerdo y su opinión personal sobre cómo cambió el certamen.

La Organización Miss Universe difundió el 18 de noviembre de 2025 un comunicado sobre la controversia en torno a Beyond the Crown y el proceso de selección. La organización afirmó que el programa era independiente del concurso y del jurado oficial, negó que se hubiera creado un jurado improvisado y sostuvo que las evaluaciones seguían sus protocolos establecidos, transparentes y supervisados. Esa es la versión institucional de la organización, no una verificación independiente.
