ABC News transcribed his remarks this way: “We play these characters for a couple of hours a day, for a couple of months out of the year, but this is y’all’s reality, the highs and the lows, so thank you for embracing us while we tell the story.” The report described the remarks as a shoutout to the entire restaurant community. Why he thanked restaurant workers
Boyce drew a distinction between actors portraying restaurant life for part of the year and workers who experience its pressures and rewards as their real lives. His thanks acknowledged the people and community behind the world the series depicts.

In a January 2024 interview with November Magazine, Boyce reflected on the response to his remarks. He said he felt relieved after saying the names he wanted to thank, and explained: “To me, it was cool that people responded to the speech, but I was just happy that we could thank the restaurant community–it was a no-brainer.” He added: “It wasn’t about saying the right thing, it was about thanking the real community who serves us.” These were his later interview comments, not part of the acceptance speech.
