What story does the biopic tell?
Lifetime describes I Was Honey Boo Boo as a true-story drama. Its synopsis follows Alana through the children’s pageant circuit, her discovery by audiences as “Honey Boo Boo,” and her family’s rise as reality-TV personalities. It also frames the story around difficulties the family faced away from its public image, Alana being placed in the care of her older sister Pumpkin, and her effort to move beyond the labels attached to her childhood fame. This is Lifetime’s framing of the film, not independent verification of every event depicted. Lifetime’s official film page
Who plays Alana Thompson and her family?
The narrator and the actors are different people. Lifetime’s cast listing names Vale Cooper as Alana, Chelsea Larkin as Mama June, and Georgia Small as Pumpkin. The April 2025 report also names Isabelle Ayres as the older Alana. Lifetime’s cast listing · The Things’ report
