La plaça del Diamant is Mercè Rodoreda’s Catalan novel, first published in Barcelona by Club Editor in 1962. The available publisher and institutional records identify published print and ebook editions, but they do not establish an authorized free PDF of the complete novel. If you are looking for the English version, it is titled The Time of the Doves.
Is there an authorized PDF of La plaça del Diamant?
The available records do not confirm an authorized free PDF of the complete novel. They document published editions instead. Edhasa lists a Spanish-language hardcover and says an ebook is available; its listing is for that publisher’s Spanish edition, not a PDF download. Check the live listing for current stock, language, and format before choosing an edition.
A literary-information page or study resource is not the same thing as a full-text book. UOC LletrA’s resource identifies the English edition and its publication details; it is not described as a complete downloadable copy.
Which edition should you look for?
Choose by language and format, and check that a retailer’s listing is for the complete book rather than an informational resource.

What is the novel about?
In Edhasa’s synopsis, the central character Natalia—nicknamed Colometa—lives through the Spanish Civil War and the hardship that follows. The synopsis describes bereavement, hunger, poverty, raising her children under difficult circumstances, and an unhappy marriage in which she gives up her identity and conforms to the conventions of her time. The Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana describes the book as representative of postwar literature. These are useful points of orientation, not a complete interpretation of the novel.

Why do English translation dates differ?
The records give different English-language dates, which should not be collapsed into one definitive first-publication date. The Fundació Mercè Rodoreda chronology records an English translation in 1967, while UOC LletrA identifies David Rosenthal’s Graywolf Press edition of The Time of the Doves as published in 1986. These may refer to different translation or edition milestones; the cited records do not resolve the difference.

How widely has it been translated?
Institutional and publisher pages give different totals: Edhasa says the novel has been translated into more than thirty languages, while a Generalitat de Catalunya cultural catalog says more than forty. These are attributed claims, not a reconciled current count, so it is more accurate to say the novel has been translated widely than to present one figure as definitive.
