Frontman Danny O’Donoghue described the band’s decision to carry on as doing what felt like “the next right thing.” Their album Satellites, released in August 2024, marked the group’s first studio album since Sheehan’s death. The Australian dates announced around its release took place in January and February 2025 and are now complete.
Mark Sheehan’s death and the band’s pause
Mark Sheehan, The Script’s co-founder and lead guitarist, died in April 2023 at the age of 46. His death left the band facing whether and how to continue without a central member and O’Donoghue’s childhood friend. In an interview listing, ABC Sydney said O’Donoghue spoke about the pain of losing Sheehan and experiencing writer’s block. The West Australian reported that he sought help and support from fellow musicians.

O’Donoghue told Official Charts he had not expected to return to the stage after Sheehan’s death. That makes the band’s later return a meaningful change in direction, not evidence that grief had simply ended or that the loss was resolved.
Satellites became the band’s first post-Sheehan album
The Script released Satellites on 16 August 2024. It was the band’s seventh studio album and its first since Sheehan’s death. The Music described it as a 12-track record and reported that Sheehan co-wrote its title track, leaving his contribution present in the album that began the band’s next chapter.

O’Donoghue described continuing as a decision the band made together: “We’re just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do, and that’s to keep making more great music.” The statement, published by The Music on 12 September 2024, frames the return as a choice to keep creating rather than a claim that the band had moved beyond its loss.
Release-era formats and chart report
BMG’s 26 August 2024 release announcement listed the album in several physical formats. It also reported release-era chart debuts of Number One in Ireland and number two in the UK. These are figures reported by the label at the time, not a statement of current sales or retailer stock.

The 2025 Australian tour is over
Frontier Touring announced seven Australian performances on 1 August 2024, with dates scheduled for January and February 2025. The itinerary included arena dates in Wollongong and Sydney as well as outdoor shows in other regions. The promoter’s past-tour listing now marks the dates as completed, so they are not upcoming shows and their historical tickets should not be treated as current ticket availability.

At the time, the tour placed the new album alongside the band’s live performances. In the longer view, it was an early part of The Script’s return to the stage after O’Donoghue had said he never expected to perform again.

Satellites was not the end of the band’s post-Sheehan story. A later interview published by The Music on 27 May 2026 discussed a next album and world tour, putting the 2024 record and 2025 Australian run in an earlier chapter of the group’s continuing career. The central change is more modest and more human than a story of grief disappearing: The Script resumed making music and performing, while O’Donoghue spoke openly about the pain that remained.
