Spoilers for Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comic series. There is no official or statistically established ranking of the comic’s best fights. This is a subjective list, weighing personal stakes, scale, brutality, reversals, and the ways a clash changes Mark or the story around him.
10. The final battles of “The End of All Things”
The series finale earns its place through sheer consequence: the fight is not just another test of Mark’s strength, but part of the story’s closing reckoning. Image Comics’ solicitation for Invincible #139, published August 16, 2017, calls it part seven of “The End of All Things” and describes the battle as “the biggest, most brutal, most monumental battle in INVINCIBLE history!” The solicitation does not identify every combatant, so the appeal here is the scale and finality, rather than a claim about a particular matchup.

9. The Viltrumite War battles
The Viltrumite conflict works less as one neatly bounded duel than as a sequence of battles with consequences for the empire, Earth, and Mark’s understanding of his own people. That breadth gives it a different kind of weight from a one-on-one grudge match. It also makes the war a useful lens for seeing how the series turns a superhero brawl into a question of loyalty and survival.
Image Comics’ series page establishes Mark’s superhero story and credits Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley among the creators. The publisher’s description of #76 places the Invincible–Thragg confrontation within the wider Viltrumite stakes; it should not be mistaken for the issue range of the entire war.

8. Invincible vs. Angstrom Levy
Angstrom Levy’s fights stand out because the danger is personal as well as physical. The conflict presses on Mark’s responsibility and the damage that can follow from a battle, rather than measuring only who can hit harder. It is a compelling pick for readers who value emotional fallout and moral pressure over the biggest spectacle.
Readers mention Levy among the series’ memorable opponents, but the discussions are individual opinions, not a representative fan poll. The precise issue range is not established here, so this entry is intentionally not tied to a specific number.
7. The Invincible War
The Invincible War is the list’s ensemble-scale choice: its hook is the threat of many versions of Invincible, turning a familiar hero into the source of an overwhelming crisis. That premise gives the event a different rhythm from the series’ more intimate rivalries.
Rank #2
Image Comics’ #61, published April 22, 2009, is explicitly labeled “INVINCIBLE WAR: AFTERMATH!” and sets up Conquest as Mark’s next powerful adversary. That issue establishes the aftermath and transition, not the full event’s issue range.
6. Mark vs. Omni-Man
Mark and Omni-Man’s clash is the series’ most consequential family conflict. Its force comes from the collision between a son’s attachment to his father and the truth of what Omni-Man believes he must do. The fight makes the story’s central relationship impossible to treat as background: every blow carries the question of whether love, persuasion, or sheer endurance can change what happens next.
This is a broad story-level pick rather than an issue-specific guide; no exact issue range is asserted here.
Rank #3
5. The Conquest rematch
The rematch belongs on the list as a distinct test of what Mark has learned since their first encounter. Repeating the matchup matters because Mark is no longer facing Conquest under the same circumstances—or as the same person. The appeal is the changed balance between them, not simply the chance to see the original violence again.
Community discussions mention Conquest, but that is anecdotal evidence of reader interest, not proof of a consensus ranking. The exact issue context is not specified here.
4. Nolan vs. Thragg on the moon
This matchup has the clean, mythic shape of two Viltrumite leaders settling a conflict far from Earth, while the story continues to expose secrets about their empire. Image Comics’ solicitation for Invincible #102, published April 24, 2013, puts Nolan and Thragg “on the surface of the moon” and ties the confrontation to revelations about the Viltrumite Empire. The setting gives the fight scale; the revelations give it political stakes.
Rank #4
3. Invincible vs. Thragg
Mark’s one-on-one fight with Thragg is the list’s most direct collision between the hero and the Viltrumite threat. Image Comics’ solicitation for Invincible #76, published December 22, 2010, says, “It’s all been leading up to this: Invincible vs. Thragg, one-on-one!” The same solicitation frames the fate of the universe as hanging in the balance. That combination—personal combat and enormous stakes—makes the bout a defining confrontation.

Battle Beast and Thragg meet as combatants whose defining trait is an appetite for the hardest possible fight. Their matchup turns a contest of strength into a question of endurance: how much punishment can either warrior take, and what does victory cost? Image Comics’ solicitation for Invincible #115, published November 19, 2014, turns the spotlight toward “THRAGG VS. BATTLE BEAST!”
For readers who want the collected edition, Image’s Invincible Volume 20 New Edition collects issues #115–120 and features the confrontation. Edition availability and pricing can change.

1. Invincible vs. Conquest: the first fight
Conquest’s first fight with Mark takes the top spot because it makes the danger feel immediate and personal. The Invincible War’s aftermath gives way to an opponent who is not merely another obstacle: Image Comics’ #61 calls Conquest Mark’s next powerful adversary. The fight’s place at the top rests on its brutality and the way it forces Mark into a desperate struggle, rather than on a claim that it is officially the series’ most popular bout.
Image’s solicitation establishes the Conquest setup after the Invincible War aftermath, but does not give the full fight range. Readers looking at the post-Viltrumite-War period can also find issues #79–84 collected in Invincible Volume 14 New Edition.
How to read this ranking
Questions such as “What are your favorite fights in the comics?” and “What’s your favorite Mark Grayson fight?” capture the subjective nature of these lists. Community posts include praise for Conquest and Thragg matchups, but individual discussions cannot establish what most readers think. This ranking is an editorial selection, not an official order or a poll result.
