Aaron Eckhart has a documented Mormon family background, but the available evidence does not establish whether he is currently a member of or practices The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In a 2007 interview, he described his own outlook as “universal law.”
What Aaron Eckhart said about his religious background
In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, Eckhart said his parents were Mormons and that his father converted while attending Brigham Young University. The interview records his family background; it does not establish Eckhart’s current religious affiliation.
Asked about his own outlook, Eckhart said, “I value the church very much. As you get older you find your own way. I am in the process of finding my own way.” When asked how he would classify his religion, he replied, “I would say universal law is my religion.” Those comments describe what he said at that time, not necessarily his beliefs today.
Is he still a practicing Mormon?
The 2007 interview does not confirm that Eckhart is currently a member or practicing Latter-day Saint, and the reviewed evidence does not settle his present status. It is more accurate to say that he has a reported Mormon family background and spoke in 2007 about finding his own way than to state simply that he is Mormon now.

Why the terms “Mormon” and “Latter-day Saint” both appear
“Mormon” is a familiar nickname associated with the Book of Mormon. The Church encourages people to use its full name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as explained in its terminology guidance. The Church describes itself as Christian and summarizes its beliefs about Jesus Christ and scripture in its beliefs overview. These terms clarify the institution; they do not determine Eckhart’s personal membership.
