For Bia Torres, Giulia Nassa, and Laura Castro, acting in Use Sua Voz meant revisiting school from three very different angles. The BFF Girls singers brought memories of academic struggle, a wish for more room for art, and the challenge of balancing school with work to a series about students whose final music auditions are derailed by a blackout.
What happens in Use Sua Voz?
The 2023 series places the BFF Girls members—Bia Torres, Giulia Nassa, and Laura Castro—in the roles of high-school-aged students at Colégio Use Sua Voz. On the last day of school, a blackout strikes just as the school’s Núcleo Musical is about to hold its final auditions. The students suspect sabotage and begin investigating.
The premise gives the show more than a music-contest framework: its students have to work out what happened while navigating a school shaped by performance and self-expression. VEJA São Paulo described the series as combining musical and comedic elements. Director Adolpho Knaut said the aim was to create recognizable characters and an engaging plot.
How did their real school experiences shape their connection to the students?
The three performers did not describe one shared school experience. Their contrasting memories—from difficulty concentrating to a search for creative outlets—gave each a different point of contact with the series’ students, without making their stories interchangeable.

Giulia Nassa: understanding school difficulty in retrospect
Nassa said school became harder as she grew older. She received an ADHD diagnosis in the year the series was filmed and recalled that, before it, people at school saw her as lazy. “Achavam que eu era só preguiçosa” (“They thought I was just lazy”), she said in the 2023 POPline interview.
She described being able to follow a lesson but then struggling to recall or apply what she had learned during a test. Nassa connected those memories to a character who also experiences attention-related difficulties. This is her account of her own experience, not medical advice or a general description of how ADHD affects students.

Bia Torres: looking for more space for art
Torres said she loved school, especially an arts-oriented elementary school. Later, at a more methodical high school in Goiânia focused on university entrance exams, she looked for ways to bring creative projects into school life, including music projects and student events. The artistic environment in Use Sua Voz resonated with that wish.
Laura Castro: diligent, but often away for work
Castro described herself as a diligent student who liked studying. Work, however, meant missing school events. After attending five schools, she remembered her final, constructivist school as welcoming creativity and differences—and as a place that helped her artistic side develop.

Why did Giulia say she wanted to attend the fictional school?
Nassa joked that she would have liked to go to a school like the one in the series: “Eu queria ir para uma escola daquela da série, em que se pode usar aquelas roupas e cantar.” In English: “I wanted to go to a school like the one in the series, where you can wear those clothes and sing.” The line captures the show’s appeal as an imagined school with room for performance and individuality, in contrast with the more conventional settings the performers recalled.
Who wrote the new songs for the series?
Torres said the original plan was to use existing BFF Girls songs. After reading the scripts, she began writing songs for particular characters and storylines instead. In her account, the story came first, and the songs were created around what characters experienced in the series.

“O roteiro veio antes das músicas. Elas são inspiradas nos roteiros,” Torres said in a separate POPline interview published July 6, 2023. She described the result as an original soundtrack spanning different genres and developed around the characters’ experiences. Her comments explain how the music grew out of the drama rather than being added as a collection of pre-existing band tracks.
