News outlets reported criticism of her comments, including a response from influencer Luisa Marilac. The coverage describes a contentious exchange—not a measured account of what the public as a whole thinks.
What did Luana Piovani say?
On June 17, Piovani shared a story concerning swimmer Lia Thomas and wrote, “Sou contra trans competirem com mulheres” (“I am against trans people competing with women”), according to iBahia’s June 18 report. iBahia also said the story she shared contained incorrect information.
Guia Gay São Paulo reported that Piovani first posted the statement without the word “cis,” then deleted and reposted it as “Sou contra trans competindo com mulheres cis” (“I am against trans people competing with cis women”). These are outlets’ descriptions of her social-media posts; the reports do not provide independently authenticated captures.
How did people react online?
Reports described criticism of Piovani’s position and accusations of transphobia. Guia Gay São Paulo also characterized the posts it cited as divided, while saying that the reactions it observed appeared to lean toward agreement with the criticism. That is the outlet’s reading of selected social-media responses, not a survey or a measured majority.

Luisa Marilac’s response
In a June 18 report, iG Queer said influencer Luisa Marilac responded in an Instagram video and quoted her criticizing both Piovani personally and her comment. Those personal remarks are Marilac’s view, not independently established facts about Piovani.

The coverage documents a celebrity’s reported social-media statement and the critical responses that followed in June 2024. It does not establish the sports-governance or legal facts behind the story Piovani shared. In particular, these reports are not official records of competition rules or arbitration proceedings, and they do not establish a definitive account of Thomas’s Olympic eligibility. The controversy should therefore be understood as a dispute over Piovani’s comments and the reactions reported at the time, not as a reliable guide to current eligibility rules.
