Its stories follow small animals through forests, beaches, ponds and Australian habitats, using close-up filmmaking to reveal courtship, metamorphosis and survival. The season’s official episode list includes a look at how those tiny worlds were filmed.
What is A Real Bug’s Life 2?
“A Real Bug’s Life 2” is the second season of National Geographic’s A Real Bug’s Life, not a separate series. Disney announced the five-episode season for Disney+ on February 8, 2024, naming Plimsoll Productions as producer and Awkwafina as narrator. Disney’s renewal announcement describes a natural-history series that brings the lives of small animals into view through close-up filmmaking.
The title is playful shorthand rather than a promise that every featured creature is an insect. The season follows small animals and the environments they inhabit, including a hermit crab and other creatures outside the insect category.
What happens in each episode?
The official Disney+ catalog lists five episodes. The season moves between habitats and animal stories, then turns the camera on the making of the series.

|---|---|
| Love in the Forest | Forest courtship, including a luna moth in the Smoky Mountains with one night to grow wings, find a mate and pass on its genes. |

| Once a Pond a Time | Pond creatures face predators and human activity. A damselfly’s metamorphosis on a British pond is among the stories highlighted in the season media kit. |
| Tiny Heroes Down Under | Australian bugs and the challenges of life in their habitat. |
| Bee-Hind the Camera | A behind-the-scenes look at filming the series. |
These examples come from the official season media kit and the Disney+ season catalog; they are not a complete inventory of the animals filmed.
How does the series film such small animals?
Plimsoll Productions describes a mix of specialist camera and imaging techniques for the series: macro filming, motion-controlled cameras, ultra-high-speed lenses and cameras, probe and microscope lenses, photogrammetry and first-person drones. These approaches let a production work at tiny scales while showing movement, detail and surroundings. The company’s series page and behind-the-scenes feature describe the equipment and the collaboration between scientists, experts and filmmakers.

The production descriptions explain how this series was made; they do not identify a particular consumer camera or lens model. A professional probe or microscope lens is not, by itself, a recommendation for a consumer macro photography kit.
