Anya Taylor-Joy plays Furiosa, Chris Hemsworth plays Dementus, and George Miller directs. The film is best understood as a companion to Fury Road, not a direct continuation.
What is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga about?
Warner Bros. describes the film as a standalone adventure revealing the origins of Furiosa, the character from Mad Max: Fury Road. That framing makes this an origin story within the Mad Max world: it centers on the character’s beginnings rather than presenting itself as a direct continuation of Fury Road. Warner Bros.’ production announcement identifies the premise and the film’s creative team.

Who plays Furiosa and Dementus?
Anya Taylor-Joy plays Furiosa, and Chris Hemsworth plays Dementus. Tom Burke is also among the film’s named cast. These are the central roles to know when approaching the story: Taylor-Joy takes on the character whose origins are being explored, while Hemsworth portrays Dementus. Rotten Tomatoes’ listing identifies the roles and credits George Miller as director.
How does it connect to Mad Max: Fury Road?
The connection is the Furiosa character. Warner Bros. presents Furiosa as a story about her origins, while Fury Road is the film through which the character is already known. The useful comparison is therefore one of story function: Furiosa supplies character background, and Fury Road is the related companion film. The available official description does not establish further continuity details, so it is safest not to infer them from the word “saga.”

For a simple viewing choice, watch Fury Road as the companion title if you want the character context that Furiosa expands. This is a narrative recommendation, not a claim that either film must be watched first to understand the other.
