What is the song like, and what did Dan Reynolds say it means?
Universal Music Japan describes “Eyes Closed” as bringing together alternative, rap, electronic and rock elements. That is the label’s characterization of the track rather than a formal genre classification. Its announcement also describes the video as placing Reynolds in a maze, moving through it with confidence as he sings the line “I could do this with my eyes closed.”

In an interview with Mark Kennedy of The Associated Press, Reynolds described the song’s persona as someone who appears composed and strong outwardly but is struggling internally: “It really was about being something that on the outside looks put together and strong,” he said, “but on the inside it’s on the verge of maybe shattering.” The Associated Press published the interview on April 22, 2024.
