Andrew Rummer tried with a nonsexual account—and says he made nothing over a couple of weeks. His short experiment, reported by WIRED on October 19, 2024, is less a verdict on every SFW creator than a revealing look at the hurdles: finding an audience, persuading people to subscribe, and overcoming the platform’s reputation.
What happened when Rummer tried a wholesome OnlyFans?
Rummer began by posting an introduction, a video of himself reading Three Men in a Boat, and a sailing update. He promoted the page on X and LinkedIn. After his first promotion, he says he gained one follower; after posting more, he had five. A paid video offering public-relations advice for $5 attracted no buyers. At the end of a couple of weeks, he reported total earnings of zero.
That result belongs to one creator, one offer, and a brief trial. It does not show that nonsexual creators generally cannot make money on OnlyFans. It does show that putting a price on content is not the same as bringing in customers.
Why was it difficult to find subscribers?
Discovery depended on promotion elsewhere
WIRED described OnlyFans search at the time as limited to posts by creators a user already followed, with no recommendation feed for discovering unfamiliar creators. The article said a company spokesperson characterized that limitation as a deliberate safety feature. With little in-platform discovery, Rummer relied on his existing networks to send people to his page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That approach did not translate into paying fans in his trial. External promotion can introduce a page to potential subscribers, but it cannot guarantee that they will follow, create an account, or pay.
Interest did not always become a subscription
Some people who were curious about Rummer’s professional advice did not want to sign up or share personal information. One prospective subscriber told WIRED: “I’m super curious about the contents of the video but also do not want to give OF my personal data and sign up for an account.”

Rummer also heard concern about how an OnlyFans payment might appear on a card statement. The platform’s association with sexual content could make an otherwise SFW purchase feel conspicuous to potential customers. A former colleague described the worry this way: “I think your potential subscribers will be afraid they will be seen as consumers of the other thing that platform offers and who only use you as a human shield.”
What kinds of SFW content did other creators offer?
The WIRED feature described creators using the platform for comedy, music, and paid advice, alongside Rummer’s attempt to sell PR guidance. The examples show different ways to package a direct offer; they are anecdotes, not evidence of typical income.

- Comedian John Hastings said some people on OnlyFans still contacted him for reasons unrelated to his comedy: “On OnlyFans however, he still has people who slide into his DMs just to say ‘I want to see your feet, I’m not here for jokes.’”
- Musician Dudley Alexander, who releases music as Nevrmind, offered a personalized birthday song for $35. He told WIRED fans preferred paying for individual items to his earlier experiment with a $4.99 monthly subscription.
- Professional golfer Liam O’Neill offered golf-swing advice through direct messages.
- Comedian Nate Craig told WIRED he had earned less than $100 from fans over roughly one or two years on the platform. The feature also described a separate paid filming arrangement with OnlyFans; that is distinct from fan earnings.
These examples suggest that creators can offer more than a recurring feed: a personalized message, a one-off piece of content, or advice. But a format that works for one person does not establish demand for another creator’s subject or audience.
What did the platform’s 2024 figures say—and not say?
WIRED reported figures from OnlyFans accounts and its parent company’s filing for the period covered by the 2024 article. They describe the scale of the business then, not current platform statistics or a typical creator’s prospects.

| Figure reported in WIRED in 2024 | What it refers to |
|---|---|
| 4.1 million creator accounts, up 29% year over year | Creator-account total reported from the parent company’s filing |
| 305 million fan accounts, up 28% year over year | Fan-account total; WIRED said the company did not state how many were active |
| $5.3 billion | Amount funneled to creators in the prior year, as reported by OnlyFans; the article said it was not broken out by sexual versus nonsexual content |
| $1.3 billion in revenue; $658 million in pretax profit | Prior-year figures reported by OnlyFans |
| 41% of revenue | Share attributed to recurring subscriptions in OnlyFans accounts |
| 42 staff members; approximately $31 million revenue per employee | Staff figure from OnlyFans accounts and revenue-per-employee calculation by WIRED |
The large totals do not answer how much an individual creator is likely to earn. The article did not provide an independently sourced distribution of creator earnings, and its figures do not separate SFW from sexual content. Its comparison with YouTube’s reported 45% share of long-form video advertising revenue was a platform-business comparison, not a forecast for creators.

For the period covered in its October 2024 feature, WIRED reported that creators could set monthly subscriptions from $4.99 to $50, charge up to $100 for individual paid posts, and use paid messaging. It also reported a 20% platform cut at that time. These are historical details, not verified current terms; check OnlyFans’ current creator terms and pricing before relying on them.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The practical lesson from Rummer’s attempt is that payment tools alone do not solve discovery or conversion. A creator still needs a specific offer that an audience wants, a way to reach that audience, and a path to payment that people are comfortable using.
