The 10th annual Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise left Miami on October 27, 2025, with its planned Jamaican stops at Montego Bay and Ocho Rios replaced by Cozumel, Mexico, as Hurricane Melissa approached Jamaica. The ship was scheduled to return to Miami on November 1. This was a reported change to the 2025 voyage—not a change to the event’s currently published 2026 itinerary.
What changed on the 2025 cruise?
Contemporaneous coverage reported that the cruise substituted Cozumel for its scheduled calls at Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. Hanna Ellington’s IQ Magazine report, published October 28, 2025, described the change as Jamaica braced for the hurricane. IRIE FM also reported on October 27 that the Jamaican call had been cancelled and the cruise would travel from Miami to Mexico.
These are contemporaneous media reports. The sources available here do not establish the exact time passengers were notified or provide passenger-specific refund, credit, or compensation terms. They also do not include an original announcement from the organizers or cruise line confirming those details.
Why was the route changed?
The reports tie the substitution to Hurricane Melissa’s approach to Jamaica. They establish the reported itinerary change and its timing, but do not provide a detailed account of the operational decision or attribute it to a named captain, organizer, or government official. It is therefore most accurate to describe the Cozumel call as the reported replacement made as the storm approached, rather than speculate about the decision-making process.

How the reported 2025 route differs from the published 2026 itinerary
The 2025 change should not be confused with the next voyage’s schedule. The official Welcome to Jamrock itinerary page lists the 11th annual cruise aboard Norwegian Joy for November 11–16, 2026, with Miami, Falmouth, and Ocho Rios on the itinerary. The detailed itinerary schedule currently lists:

The official itinerary gives Falmouth port hours as 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Ocho Rios hours as 7:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Those are schedule details for the listed 2026 voyage, not evidence that the 2025 reroute is happening again.

What the organizers said about Jamaica relief
The official Jamrock Jamaica Hurricane Relief Initiative page says the cruise and Ghetto Youths Foundation launched the initiative in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission. It describes an initial phase intended to provide food, clean water, and medical supplies through local partners, followed by rebuilding support for homes, schools, cultural centers, and healthcare facilities as access improves. These are the page’s stated plans; it does not establish quantities delivered or independently verified outcomes.
