Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff announced Real American Freestyle (RAF) Wrestling on April 30, 2025, and revealed the mystery “third man” as freestyle coach Israel “Izzy” Martinez. RAF was presented as a professional freestyle wrestling league—not a conventional scripted wrestling promotion—with plans for eight men’s and four women’s weight classes. Its first event was announced for Cleveland on August 30, 2025; that announcement alone does not establish whether the event took place or what the league’s current status is.
Who was the “third man”?
The person revealed was Israel “Izzy” Martinez, a Chicago-area wrestling club owner and freestyle coach. Figure Four Online reported that Martinez founded the Izzy Style Wrestling training program and would serve as RAF’s chief operating officer, with Hogan named commissioner. InterMat also described Martinez’s coaching work with MMA fighters, including Jon Jones, Holly Holm and Yair Rodriguez.
The reveal followed a social-media teaser earlier in the week. Figure Four Online and InterMat reported the announcement on April 30, 2025: Figure Four Online’s announcement report and InterMat’s report on Martinez joining the venture.
What was Real American Freestyle Wrestling?
RAF was announced as a professional freestyle wrestling league organized around competitive wrestling rather than the storylines and staged matches associated with conventional sports-entertainment promotions. The announcement described 12 planned weight classes: eight for men and four for women. Those were announced divisions, not evidence of a completed roster or competition record.

It expresses the planned concept; it does not independently verify the league’s quality or results.

Why did “third man” sound familiar?
The phrase recalls WCW’s 1996 nWo storyline. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash teased the arrival of a third ally, and Hogan revealed himself as their partner at Bash at the Beach, helping form the New World Order. WWE recounts the angle in its history of WCW and its account of Hogan’s third-man reveal. The RAF announcement borrowed the familiar phrase, but the answer in 2025 was Martinez—not Hogan.

Hogan said watching Wyatt Hendrickson defeat Gable Steveson for the NCAA national heavyweight title in March 2025, then celebrate with the U.S. president, helped inspire him. This is Hogan’s explanation of his motivation, not proof of wider audience demand. In describing RAF’s approach, the announcement coverage also said the presentation would feature athletes’ backstories and personal histories, with Bischoff working on production.
