Hulk Hogan died of an acute myocardial infarction—a heart attack—and the medical document reviewed by news outlets recorded his death as natural. It also noted a history of atrial fibrillation and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and approved cremation. That approval was not a funeral announcement: later reporting said a private service was held at a church in Largo, Florida.
What the medical document said
Hogan, whose legal name was Terry Gene Bollea, died on July 24, 2025, aged 71. ABC News reported that it obtained a copy of a cremation report through the Pinellas County Forensic Science Center. The report listed acute myocardial infarction as the cause of death and said Hogan’s primary care physician certified the death. ABC News, July 31, 2025

The Los Angeles Times, reviewing a medical document, likewise reported a heart attack as the cause and said the document confirmed a natural manner of death. It also recorded prior atrial fibrillation and “leukemia CLL,” and noted approval for cremation.
Cause of death, manner of death, and medical history
- Cause: Acute myocardial infarction, commonly called a heart attack.
- Manner: Reported as natural, rather than homicide or another manner.
- Medical history: Atrial fibrillation and chronic lymphocytic leukemia were recorded as history; the reported cause of death was the heart attack, not leukemia.
These are distinct parts of the record: cause identifies the medical event reported to have led to death, while manner classifies the circumstances of death. The available reporting does not establish that the document laid out a funeral itinerary or public memorial details.

What was known about funeral plans—and when
On July 31, 2025, the Associated Press reported that funeral plans had not yet been publicly announced. That was the status at the time of the initial coverage, not the final account of what happened. AP, July 31, 2025
The cremation approval reported in the medical document should not be confused with a public funeral plan. In June 2026, AP reported that a private funeral service had taken place at a church in Largo, Florida. The later account updates what became publicly known; it does not contradict the earlier report that plans had not been announced in July 2025. AP, June 8, 2026

What the later police investigation found
In June 2026, Clearwater police released a 72-page report and closed their investigation. AP reported that the investigation found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing and treated the death as natural. The department’s statement, as quoted by AP, said: “There has been no evidence to indicate the death of Terry Bollea was anything other than natural.”
AP also reported that the medical examiner declined to conduct a full autopsy. A private autopsy arranged by the family supported the initial assessment. These details describe the investigation and its limits; they do not change the cause of death reported from the medical document. AP, June 8, 2026
