The 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is scheduled to arrive on November 7 and be lit during the annual ceremony on December 2. The tree is at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan. Rockefeller Center has not yet posted tree-specific visiting hours or ceremony access instructions, so check its official tree page before choosing when to go.
When does the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrive and light up?
- Arrival: November 7, 2026, according to Rockefeller Center’s official tree page.
- Tree Lighting Ceremony: December 2, 2026. The page identifies the date but does not yet give this season’s program or visitor instructions.
The official tree page says, “Check back for visiting hours and additional details.” As of October 8, 2026, it does not list the hours when the tree can be visited or explain how public access will work during the ceremony. The page says the annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” broadcast airs live on NBC EST, but it has not established the 2026 broadcast schedule beyond the ceremony date.
What time can you visit the tree?
Tree-specific 2026 visiting hours have not been posted. Rockefeller Center’s general FAQ says the plaza is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but that general statement does not confirm unrestricted access to the seasonal tree display at every hour. Check the tree page for seasonal hours before setting out.
The official pages reviewed also do not establish 2026 ceremony crowd-control routes, queues, security restrictions, or a guaranteed public viewing location on lighting night. Don’t assume ordinary plaza access applies unchanged during the event.

What happens to the tree after the holidays?
Rockefeller Center says the 2026 tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, milled and treated, then used as lumber for home building. The venue also identifies The Carpenter’s Gift, written by David Rubel and illustrated by Jim LaMarche in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, as a children’s book inspired by the tree.
The tree tradition began with a 20-foot balsam fir purchased by construction workers who pooled their money in December 1931. Their families decorated it with handmade garlands, and workers raised it on Christmas Eve. Rockefeller Center says the lighting ceremony tradition began in 1933.
Are 2025 tree details a guide to the 2026 tree?
No. Rockefeller Center says the 2026 tree’s dimensions and other specifications will be announced later. The official tree FAQ reproduces these figures for the 2025 tree only: 75 feet tall, 45 feet in diameter, about 11 tons, approximately 75 years old, and more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights across 5 miles (8 km) of wire. A separate 2025 tree article, published October 27, 2025, identifies that year’s tree as a 75-foot Norway spruce from East Greenbush, New York. These are prior-season facts, not specifications or a forecast for 2026.
