Spoilers for all six episodes of Season 1. Stacy’s final choice is to stay in Montana: after returning alone to Preston’s grave, she tells Cade she intends to remain. That decision turns the finale’s haunting closing image into a starting point for Season 2, with Stacy’s life in Montana, her family’s fear and fractured relationships, and Cade’s practical support all still unresolved.
What happened at the end of The Madison?
After Preston and Paul die, the surviving Clyburns return to Manhattan. Stacy struggles with grief and begins therapy. Over time, she realizes she wants to feel close to Preston, and Montana has become the place she associates with that connection.
She leaves her phone behind, flies back to the cabins without telling her family, and goes to Preston’s grave. Abigail files a missing-person report. In the finale’s closing scene, Cade finds Stacy lying beside the grave, with a handgun nearby for protection. She is safe when he finds her, but the image understandably alarms him—and her unexplained disappearance has left her family worried.
Why did Stacy go back to Montana, and does she stay?
Stacy returns because she connects Montana with feeling close to Preston. Her visit becomes more than a private moment of mourning: she tells Cade she is there to stay. The finale establishes her intention, not the practical details of how she will make a life there or how her grief will change.

What does Cade’s scene mean for Season 2?
Cade responds as a practical local ally rather than turning the moment into a romantic declaration. Kevin Zegers, who plays Cade, described the character’s role this way: “Cade is an ally to [Stacy] and a safety blanket for her being able to feel like she can do it out there with her family.” That is Zegers’s description of their dynamic, not a synopsis of future events.
His presence gives the story a way to explore how Stacy and the Clyburns might manage life in Montana. The finale does not establish exactly what help Cade will provide or what their relationship will become.

How does the finale leave the Clyburn family?
The family believes Stacy has disappeared and fears for her safety; they do not yet know that she has chosen to return to Montana. Her decision therefore puts distance between her and the people who have returned to Manhattan, even as they remain emotionally bound by their losses.
Michelle Pfeiffer has described the family as fractured and raised the questions of how they survive as a family and how Stacy survives her grief. Those questions point to the emotional stakes ahead, but they do not confirm any particular Season 2 event.

What can Season 2 explore—and what is confirmed?
The series’ official description frames The Madison as a story of grief and human connection, following a New York family in Montana’s Madison River valley. Stacy’s stated decision to stay creates a clear continuation: the show can follow her attempt to live with loss in the place she associates with Preston while the family works out what its future looks like.

When is The Madison Season 2 coming out?
Paramount+ said in its May 13, 2026 update that Season 2 had wrapped filming, but no release date had been announced. The series is listed as renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 by Paramount Global Content. In an October 5, 2026 interview, cast member Elle Chapman said the cast was looking forward to Season 2 and that they would return for Season 3 at the start of 2027; that is cast-reported production timing for Season 3, not a Season 2 premiere date.
