When did Rihanna and A$AP Rocky start dating?
Rihanna told Vogue that they got together at the end of 2019, after knowing each other for years and seeing each other through other relationships. That is her retrospective account, not an exact independently established start date. The Associated Press reports a separate public milestone: they first made their relationship public in 2020. The two dates describe different things—Rihanna’s account of getting together and the point when their relationship became public. In a 2023 British Vogue interview, Rihanna described the couple as “best friends with a baby.” She said they had to be on the same page as parents and that having a baby had made them closer. That interview also makes clear that the couple wanted to control how their children entered public life. Rihanna said, “We get to decide as parents when and how we do that. End of story,” while discussing introducing their child publicly on the family’s terms. At the May 2025 Met Gala, after Rihanna’s third pregnancy was public, Rocky said, “It’s time that we show the people what we was cooking up,” adding that he was glad people were happy for them because they were happy. The Associated Press reported the remark. It marks a public moment in the family story, but the available milestones do not establish that Rihanna and Rocky are married.
