The Political Machine 2024 turned the 2024 presidential contest into a strategy-game simulation, letting players test how campaign issues, voter enthusiasm and turnout assumptions could shape an election. In an October 30, 2024 update, Stardock said its artificial-intelligence Trump–Harris matchup was close, with a slight edge for Trump. That was a snapshot of the game’s model at the time—not an independently validated forecast or a prediction for today.
What the game’s “roll the dice” simulation means
The Political Machine 2024 is Stardock’s political strategy and election simulation game. Its October 2024 update framed the contest between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump through modeled campaign issues, voter enthusiasm and turnout. Players could explore the race as a game scenario; its outcome reflected the assumptions built into that simulation, not a guaranteed result in the real election.
Stardock’s October 30 announcement described the update as the game’s “final major update.” It said the changes adjusted the importance of top political issues and voter enthusiasm to reflect the publisher’s view of the race in October 2024. The official announcement on Steam Community also links to the game’s Steam store listing.
What Stardock changed in October 2024
Issues and voter enthusiasm
Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said, “We are seeing a lot of movement on voter enthusiasm.” He described the campaign as consolidating around “a handful of key issues such as inflation, abortion and the border.” In the update, these factors shaped how the game represented the changing race; they were not a claim that all voters weighed those issues equally.

- INTENSE ELECTION SIMULATION: Experience the thrill of a presidential campaign. Players take on roles like Ruling Party, Opposition Party, Centrist, or Independent Candidate to compete for the presidency . Manage your campaign across 5 regional boards including Seoul-Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Gangwon to secure the most votes.
- UNIQUE "VOTE BAG" MECHANIC: Victory isn't guaranteed just by being popular. The game features a dramatic "Vote Count" system where support tokens are placed in a cloth bag. Tokens are drawn based on voter engagement levels, meaning even a leading candidate can lose if their supporters don't show up to vote.
- DEEP STRATEGIC GAMEPLAY: Engage in 3 distinct phases: Rally, Political Action, and Media . Use Political Cards to spotlight local issues, unite with minor candidates, or attack opponents . But be careful—aggressive moves accumulate "Risk Cards" that can cause you to lose core supporters during the Media Phase.
- HIGH REPLAYABILITY: No two elections are the same. The political landscape changes every game with randomized Political Orientation Cards and Priority Policy Cards placed on regional boards. Detailed rules for 2, 3, and 4 players ensure a balanced and exciting experience for any group size.
- WHAT'S IN THE BOX: A complete strategy game set including 5 Regional Boards, 1 Vote Count Track, 4 Candidate Cards, 50 Political Cards, 30 Risk Cards, wooden components (Meeples, Cubes, Tokens), a Cloth Vote Bag, and a comprehensive Rulebook . Playtime: 45 min. Ages: 14+.
Turnout and early voting
The announcement said Stardock attempted to simulate how early voting could affect turnout. Wardell explained, “It’s been challenging to have the game’s underlying model factor in voting that occurs over multiple days.” That distinction matters: issue support and enthusiasm describe how voters might respond to the campaign, while turnout assumptions address whether and when they cast a ballot.
What the game said about Harris versus Trump
Stardock described its AI-controlled Trump-versus-Harris simulation as close, with a slight edge for Trump in October 2024. Wardell said the model highlighted North Carolina and that the team was investigating why it treated North Carolina, rather than Pennsylvania, as the linchpin state.

In a September 4, 2024 GamesBeat interview, Dean Takahashi reported Wardell’s statement that the game’s August 2024 sales were 27 times its May 2024 debut-month sales. Wardell connected the increase to changes in the race and in the simulation after Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee. GamesBeat relayed the figure; it did not independently audit the game’s sales.
