Justin Bieber named three songs from Purpose when asked which were related to Selena Gomez: “What Do You Mean?,” “Sorry” (which he said was related “a little bit”), and “Mark My Words.” For Hailey Bieber, he has publicly discussed “2 Much” and “Unstable” in relation to his wife, while the Associated Press identified “Go Baby” as a Hailey-related track. These are documented examples, not complete counts of every song about either relationship.
How many songs did Bieber connect to Selena Gomez?
Three, according to Bieber’s answer in a 2015 interview with Ellen DeGeneres about his album Purpose. He named “What Do You Mean?,” “Sorry,” and “Mark My Words.” He qualified “Sorry” as related “a little bit,” so the three attributions are not identical in strength. TIME republished Jessica Goodman’s report of the exchange.

This is a count of songs he specifically named in that interview—not a verified total of every song in his catalog associated with Gomez. Bieber also described how ordinary reminders can bring back shared memories, but that does not establish additional song titles.
Which songs did Bieber connect to Hailey?
“2 Much” and “Unstable”
In a March 19, 2021 Vogue interview, Bieber described “2 Much” as a song where he could talk about his love for his wife: “This is one of those songs where I get to talk about how much I love my wife.” He said “Unstable” reflected a difficult period when his wife was there for him.

“Go Baby”
In its July 11, 2025 coverage of Swag, the Associated Press characterized “Go Baby” as a Hailey-related love song. The AP reported that the album has 21 tracks and quoted Def Jam’s album-level description connecting the project to Bieber’s devotion as a husband and father. That broad framing does not mean every track is about Hailey. Read the AP report.
These are publicly documented examples rather than an exhaustive Hailey-song tally. The available statements do not establish a definitive count across Bieber’s catalog.

Should “Ghost” count as a Selena Gomez song?
Not on the cited evidence. Bieber described “Ghost” in broad terms as being about “losing somebody you love,” including the grief of death and the experience of someone moving on. In Vogue’s 2021 interview, he also connected the song to isolation and loss during the pandemic; in a December 2024 iHeartRadio report, he again discussed loss generally. Neither explanation identifies Gomez. iHeart’s report covers his later explanation.
Listeners may interpret lyrics through the lens of a public relationship, but that is different from an attribution by Bieber. Without a specific statement identifying Gomez, “Ghost” should not be added to the confirmed Selena count.

What the documented counts do—and do not—show
| Person or relationship | Documented songs | Basis and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Selena Gomez | “What Do You Mean?,” “Sorry,” and “Mark My Words” | Bieber named these three Purpose songs in a 2015 interview; he said “Sorry” was related “a little bit.” This is not a complete catalog count. TIME. |
| Hailey Bieber | “2 Much,” “Unstable,” and “Go Baby” | Bieber discussed the first two in relation to his wife in Vogue’s 2021 interview; AP characterized “Go Baby” as Hailey-related in 2025. These are examples, not an exhaustive tally. Vogue; AP. |
The Recording Academy’s oral history of Purpose provides context on the album’s creation and chart history, but not a song-by-song relationship inventory. It therefore does not change the interview-based Selena count or establish a broader total.
