What an inflation estimate can—and cannot—tell you
A consumer-price comparison estimates how the purchasing power of money changes as prices change. It does not directly say how Jack’s wealth compares with modern wages, household budgets, or the size of the economy. Those are different questions and can produce different relative-value comparisons.
