SILENT HILL f is best understood as an independent spin-off that its writer believes shares the series’ universe, not as a direct sequel, prequel or crossover. Ryukishi07 has said the game is “not directly related” to the other entries, while also saying that he sees its Japan-set story and Silent Hill, Maine, as coexisting in the same universe. That distinction is the clearest answer to where it fits.
Is SILENT HILL f a sequel to another game?
No direct sequel or prequel connection has been established. In an interview with Anime News Network, writer Ryukishi07 described SILENT HILL f as an “independent spin-off” that is “not directly related” to the other games. That makes it a standalone story rather than a continuation of a specific numbered game’s plot.
He also said he does not intend the separation to reject the franchise’s legacy or lore. In his view, Silent Hill, Maine, and the story set in Japan coexist in the same universe. This is the writer’s characterization, not an official chronology or evidence that characters or events cross between the games.
What is officially established about its setting?
KONAMI introduced SILENT HILL f as a new story set in 1960s Japan, the first entry in the series set there. Its protagonist, high-school student Shimizu Hinako, lives in the remote mountain town of Ebisugaoka. Fog transforms the familiar town into a threatening place. The announcement identifies Ryukishi07 as the writer and describes the story as psychological horror concerned with human nature and societal expectations. KONAMI’s announcement establishes the period and setting, but does not place the events at a precise point relative to the other games.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The change of country and cultural setting does not, by itself, prove that the game is outside the wider universe. Nor does the shared-universe statement establish a specific supernatural link between Ebisugaoka and the Maine town. The available statements support coexistence as the writer’s view, not a more detailed explanation of how the settings connect.
How does it connect to the series beyond plot?
The clearest continuity is creative and thematic. KONAMI presents the game as psychological horror, while a PlayStation Blog interview describes the team’s effort to combine the series’ psychological elements with Japanese folklore and fear. Series producer Motoi Okamoto discusses puzzles tied to the story and characters’ inner lives, an approach the interview presents as characteristic of SILENT HILL.

That continuity helps explain why a game can feel connected to the franchise without directly continuing another entry’s plot. Ryukishi07 has described the series as a way to explore a person’s heart and mind; SILENT HILL f carries that psychological focus into a different setting and story. A thematic resemblance is meaningful, but it is not proof of a shared character, event or specific lore mechanism.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where does it fit in the timeline?
The only firm time placement established by KONAMI’s announcement is the game’s setting in 1960s Japan. Ryukishi07’s shared-universe comment does not specify when Ebisugaoka’s events occur in relation to the plots of other games. On the evidence available, it is not possible to give SILENT HILL f a precise position in a series-wide chronology or to assign it a direct relationship to Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 or Silent Hill 4.
