No reliable public source establishes that Howie Mandel lost money after leaving Deal or No Deal, or gives a dollar amount for any such loss. The premise is unverified: Mandel has described the years before the show as a career low point and said accepting the hosting job helped turn things around.
What Mandel said about his career before the show
In a 2020 Esquire interview, Mandel recalled that his career had “ebbed” around 2004–2005: he was not selling many stand-up tickets and was not appearing on television. He described Deal or No Deal as a “catapult” for his career. Those are retrospective comments about his work, not a disclosure of earnings or personal finances. Esquire’s interview

In a later podcast interview, Mandel said his career was not in a good place in 2005 and that he was considering other directions. He initially declined the game-show offer, then reconsidered after his wife encouraged him to take it. Looking back, he said, “as it turned out, it was a positive and it turned around.” The Best Podcast Ever with Raven and Miranda
He also told Larry King in 2007 that the show had changed his life. Neither account gives a salary, a later loss, or a before-and-after financial comparison. CNN’s Larry King Live transcript

Leaving the original series did not establish a financial loss
The original NBC series ran from 2005 to 2009. In 2018, CNBC announced a revival with Mandel returning as host and executive producer. That chronology shows a gap between versions, but it does not reveal what he earned during or after the original run, or whether his finances changed when it ended. TheWrap’s 2018 report
Later work is not an earnings statement
In a 2019 CBS interview, Mandel said he continued to perform hundreds of live shows a year and discussed a stand-up special and a comedy-club project. This documents ongoing professional activity, not his total income or net worth. CBS Los Angeles’ interview

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can—and cannot—be concluded
- No reviewed reliable source gives a dollar figure for money Mandel lost after the show, or documents a decline in his net worth.
- Mandel’s own accounts describe his career before the hosting job as struggling and the opportunity as a positive turning point.
- Later work and the CNBC revival are career context; neither establishes his compensation, financial outcome, or what he might otherwise have earned.
So the accurate answer is that no substantiated amount is available. Any claim that Mandel lost a specific sum would go beyond the public evidence cited here.
