How much does an SNL cast member make per episode?
In a December 2024 New York Magazine first-paycheck feature, Pete Davidson recalled that his SNL pay was “like three grand an episode.” This is the most useful recent on-camera anchor in public reporting, but it is Davidson’s recollection about his own first paycheck—not an NBC announcement or a confirmed rate for the ensemble.
There is no verified, public universal salary scale in the available reporting. Figures presented online as standard starting rates, veteran pay, or a top-cast-member maximum should be treated as estimates unless they are tied to a named performer’s disclosure or a reliable contract document.
Why isn’t there a confirmed salary ladder?
Individual anecdotes are not show-wide terms
Davidson’s comment documents what he remembered receiving; it does not show that all performers had identical contracts, appeared in every episode, or were paid under the same terms.
Reported estimates vary in age and reliability
Salary roundups repeat differing pay bands, and a 2026 roundup describes commonly circulated figures as unconfirmed estimates. A reported contract page for Kevin Nealon concerns his own seasons in the early 1980s and 1990s. It illustrates that individual contracts and compensation changed over time, but it cannot establish today’s rates.
Tenure and contract era matter, but do not produce a public formula
A number may refer to a different season, a performer with different tenure, a direct recollection, or an unattributed estimate. Those distinctions help explain why figures conflict; they do not supply a verified current rate table.

Can you calculate a season’s pay from the per-episode figure?
Only as a hypothetical. Multiplying Davidson’s recollection by a chosen episode count gives arithmetic, not a reported season salary. Season episode counts vary, the available sources do not establish that every cast member appears in every installment, and they do not establish that all performers share the same per-episode terms. A season total is therefore not automatically an annual salary.

In a December 2024 Variety interview discussed by Us Weekly, longtime cast member Kenan Thompson declined to give a specific salary number. He said, “It’s pretty notorious that it’s more so about having the job than getting paid for the job.” His remark describes the perceived career value of the position; it is not a compensation disclosure.

What can readers conclude about SNL salaries?
- One recent cast-member recollection puts a first paycheck at about $3,000 per episode.
- That figure is not a confirmed rate for other cast members or for current contracts.
- Public reporting cited here does not establish NBC’s current official pay schedule or a confirmed veteran maximum.
- Season and annual earnings cannot be inferred without reliable contract terms and a specified episode count.
